The House
Passive solar 8 inch walls with one inch wood pine on inside. Entire cement slab and footings have 2 inch high density Styrofoam insulation underneath. Faces due south sun shines in during spring and fall but on reflective metal roof in summer. Framed for doorway in bedroom and west window in living room . Framed in loft for window on east side same as west side. (elec. code would not allow window but no longer the case on east side.) Bedroom and west living room window framed for door for walk on deck in future.

Amazing the amount of heat in the Sun as it gets lower in the sky and the rays are more direct.
Stoves go off before 10 am even at -30C !  Another 3 weeks and it will be an inch above distant Nadina Mtn. This shot just after 11 today.

November 2014

Wind from the North today. Mist flowing past the window. Toasty warm  with the new Quadra Fire Santa Fe upstairs. It goes on and off with the thermostat. Identical stove also downstairs both stay on low now so pellet burn about the same just more even heat . House is very dense so it holds the heat well. The walls are one inch thick wood and all the cement in the basesment including the entire floor have 2 inches of dense Styrofoam and vapor barrier under it.  Passive solar heat storage ...it works!
